NEED: The youth group set out to rehabilitate, conserve and effectively manage the threatened Gembe Water tower and Misii catchment area.
AVENUE TO MEET NEED: The group addressed this through a reforestation program that was also expected to improve members’ livelihoods.
IMPACT: Initially the group engaged 40 youth members to carry out its activities with another 80 engaged indirectly. With the reforestation program, group members reported a visible though small increase in stream flow.
INNOVATION: Rehabilitation, conservation and effectively managing the threatened Gembe Water tower and Misii catchment area through a reforestation program.
NETFUND EFFECT: Through the partnership between UNDP and NETFUND, the group was able to plant over 20,000 trees in 40 acres.
The group was also supported on community sensitization campaigns to improve conservation efforts. Up to 200 community members were trained on sustainable land management and alternative livelihoods.
